The Scottish Sun has reported that Rangers are set to make another phone call to Steven Gerrard’s former club with the news that forward Rhian Brewster is being linked with a move north.

The Liverpool striker is currently on loan at Swansea and is expected to finish the season with them when it kicks off again in a few weeks time, however, no announcement has been made yet and Rangers could throw a spanner in the works if they want him to join in time for pre-season training.

Brewster joined the Swans in January and scored 4 goals in 11 appearances in the Championship having earlier made 3 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the FA and Carabao Cup.

Rated at nearly £5million by Transfermarkt, Brewster worked under Gerrard in the Liverpool Under-18 side that the Gers gaffer managed and also worked with first team coach Michael Beale when he was at Chelsea prior to moving to Merseyside.

True or false, Graeme Souness's first signing as Rangers manager was Terry Butcher?

Rangers need reinforcements in their forward line but a lot will depend on the future of Alfredo Morelos and Brewster will not be expected to be the man to carry the weight of expectations from the Light Blues support should the Colombian international leave.

Liverpool youngsters have enjoyed mixed fortunes in their time at Ibrox with Sheyi Ojo, Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent being trusted to Gerrard’s care in the Glasgow football goldfish bowl, the former showed flashes of what they were capable of whereas the latter did enough to persuade Rangers into spending £7.5m.

With such an important season on the horizon, Gers fans might not be happy with the prospect of developing another club’s player in such an important position, but if Brewster were to make the same impact that Kent did in his season on loan there would be few amongst the Ibrox faithful that could question the logic of Gerrard returning to his former club for assistance in his attempts to deliver the Premiership title.
