Former Ibrox striker Kris Boyd has backed Jordan Jones to make an impact at Rangers this summer after his controversial pre-contract signing.

Jones’ switch to Rangers hasn’t exactly gone down well will Kilmarnock supporters, especially after his ‘We Are The People’ Tweet shortly after the news was announced he would be joining up with Steven Gerrard’s squad at the end of the season.

He later confirmed he would not be leaving Rugby Park this month, committing to giving Kilmarnock his best for the rest of the campaign.

Boyd, who knows a thing or two about transferring from Killie to Rangers, believes the entire episode will prepare the winger well for life at Ibrox.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, the forward said:

For me, Jordan is guilty of nothing more than over-excitement and naivety. The boss has had a word with him and I’ve had a friendly word, too.

And I’ve told him that this furore over one social media message might not be a bad thing — because it’ll prepare him for what his life will be like after he moves to Ibrox.

He’ll become the focus far more than he has ever been at Killie.

Everyone will analyse everything he says or does, every tweet, every Facebook or Instagram post.

When you’re an Old Firm player, everything is magnified. You are under the microscope when you step into the Glasgow cauldron. You get away with nothing.

The row over the last couple of weeks should act as a warning to Jordan. I should know, your life is never the same again after swapping Killie for Rangers.

It’s true that Jones will have to big adjustments to make when finally arriving at Ibrox and will have a tough enough time breaking into Steven Gerrard’s first-team squad never mind any off the field problems.

Fans though are likely to give him some room to succeed at the club given his obvious support and passion.
