Ianis Hagi is finally getting the chance to settle into life as a permanent Rangers player and can be satisfied with his work so far as fans gradually get used to his role in the team.

The Herald has reported on the Romanian’s interview in which he reveals a determination to show greater consistency and to help keep Steven Gerrard’s side at the top of the table.

With seven assists in his last seven games he had looked a dead cert to start his first Old Firm game at the weekend, however, his international exertions and the coaching staff being able to work with both Ryan Kent and Brandon Barker for a fortnight in the build up to the game led to the latter being given the nod.

When asked if he was happy with how the team was playing and the start that has been made to the season, he said:

“It’s true that we have started the season as we had wanted, but it’s also true to say we probably could have done even better.

“We are in a good position, we are in a position we want to be, but the job is not finished.

“It’s early in the season and our mentality won’t change until we achieve our objectives and our goals. We will always have the mentality where we go into a match wanting to win.

“I am sure that my chance will come, that was only the first Old Firm game of the season and there are more to come. I am looking forward to being involved in one of them and hopefully I will be fit, but that is for the next game.

“But I feel good now at Rangers. Even although I have been there for ten months I’ve only had four because of Covid.

“I am only at the beginning, that is for sure. I am still working on the chemistry with the team but I believe that with every single game I am improving. There is more to come for sure and I hope it will be even better to what has happened until now.”

Hagi has already shown a level of leadership not often seen in players of his age having just turned 22-years old, he is hugely talented but is still raw, especially when you consider this season has seen his most consistent period of football for over a year.

Not just over the season, but in every game, patience is needed whenever he is on the park, he might lose the ball trying to create something but as he has shown already, it only needs to come off for him once for him to be a potential match winner – we have plenty of players that can keep the ball and play it safe so Hagi should be trusted to do his thing, a goal or assist nearly every 90 minutes, allows him this luxury as one of our most creative.
