Rangers rarely got out of second gear against Hibs on Sunday, but when they did, they showed that they had enough quality to get the goals needed to all but confirm the three points.

In a game where there was little controversy, Hibs manager, Jack Ross – again – implied that his team that had been hard done to and that they were on the wrong side of officiating errors – one day we might beat them without such complaints but I’ll not hold my breath.

When Ryan Porteous had a header disallowed the score was 2-0 to Rangers and it was pretty clear that Filip Helander had been impeded in his attempts to attack the initial ball from the corner, not so, according to Ross, as reported by The Daily Record:

“At the time I couldn’t put up a strong argument because I can’t see closely enough. I did ask why the foul had been given but the fourth official didn’t know at the time.

“As always, I get the opportunity to see it before I come and speak and it’s not a foul.

“But that happens through course of every single game, some decisions go for you, some go against you.

“But if you’re asking me ‘is it a foul?’, no, it’s not a foul.

“I don’t think anybody would think it’s a foul.

“It’s body to body and that happens in the game. It’s fine margins and moments in the game and that was obviously one of them.”

Every time we play Hibs, Ross seems to come out with a grievance about the referees and that his team has been hard done too but at the same time never mentioning Porteous being overly physical or being lucky to escape bookings due to the number of fouls he commits. The Hibs centre-half is obsessed with shoulder charging players off the ball, fair enough if the ball is there to be played but he does it to block players making runs or if the attempt to close down the keeper.

Moaning about refs is fine, if it’s justified, but trying to create some sort of conspiracy or sense of injustice when there is none is pathetic, he’s maybe trying to get himself into the running for the Celtic job….
