For the second game in succession Jamie Murphy has proved to be the key player for his side, unfortunately, he no longer wears the colours of his boyhood team and is starring on loan at Hibs.

After scoring one and creating the other against Celtic last week – a performance that went down very well with those of a Light Blue persuasion – the 31-year old turned match winner against Dundee as the Easter Road outfit ran out 1-0 winners to secure safe passage to the next round of the league cup.

He is starting to show the sort of form that saw Steven Gerrard persuaded to make Murphy’s initial loan from Brighton permanent, he scored the first competitive goal in the gaffer’s reign only to see his Rangers career brought to an abrupt halt on the infamous Kilmarnock surface.

How many senior players did Rangers sign this summer?

Jack Ross, his new boss at Hibs, said of his recent performances and after his display against Celtic:

“That’s what we brought him here for and in his last two games he’s got two assists and a goal. That’s encouraging for him and I think he’s going to keep getting better.

“The Burton spell gave him confidence in his knee and we haven’t had any issues with that here. Most of the time he’s been fit and available, he doesn’t miss training with me.

“He’s a player that thrives on playing every week and that’s encouraging for me. The more games he plays, the better he will get.”

There is no doubt that the former Premier League winger and Scotland international is a talented player and it is great to see him back fit and firing again.

So, with two goals and two assists in his last three games, Murphy is once again proving that he is still a player of some quality, there will still be some Gers fans that would have liked to see him get similar game time with us, but he was never going to get that opportunity, as long as he repeats his performance against Celtic another couple of times, losing him on a free will have been well worth the money.
