It’s a pub or workplace conversation as old as time, who would you pick in your dream XI or 5-a-side team?
It’s a question asked on Rangers TV to the current squad members and occasional guests and this week, returning centre-half Filip Helander has taken his turn in naming who he thinks is the greatest small sided team that could be assembled, as revealed on the club’s official Instagram account.
He’s gone with three players that I would pick in Gianluigi Buffon, Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi, with the big Swede picking Davi Alves in defence, but it is the other inclusion in the team that might be a surprise…
Yes, he’s picked himself!
Now, Helander is an outstanding defender, a throwback to the days when players weren’t a protected species and that self preservation was never a consideration when trying to stop the other team from scoring, however, you would never consider him as being a natural fit for 5-a-sides.

His team actually makes a lot of sense though because any team that has Messi and Ronaldinho in it is probably going to score a lot of goals and the defence he has picked would be a match for any strike force.
In the Rangers TV item he is humble enough to admit that he doesn’t consider himself to be on the same level as the other players in the team but you can’t blame him for wanting to play alongside some of this generations finest talents in their respective positions, plus, it’s big Fil, he can do what he wants.
