With the news that Rangers have been linked with a move for Liverpool’s on-loan striker Taiwo Awoniyi, it seems like ages since the papers were full of rumours claiming that almost every youth player at Anfield was heading to Ibrox.

For the first time in Steven Gerrard’s reign we don’t have any players that have been borrowed from the Premier League champions with Sheyi Ojo the last one out the door when football was called to a halt earlier in 2020.

There has, however, always been one name that continues to resurface every window and one player that could well be a quality addition to our squad – Harry Wilson – currently languishing in the bottom half of the Championship with Cardiff City, coincidentally, with Ojo also at the club.

He is now on his fifth loan move away from Liverpool and after a season in the top flight with Bournemouth last year, he surprisingly took a step down in an effort to get more game time.

His time in the Premier League was far from a flop with seven goals and two assists and he is currently providing a goal involvement every two games for Cardiff matching the sort of numbers he produced at Derby County and Hull City.

If Wilson was going to make it at Liverpool he would be in and around the squad by now, with two years left on his current contract and his 24th birthday just around the corner he has a decision to make.

If Morelos leaves should we spend big on Wilson?

There won’t be a shortage of offers from the Championship given his record at that level and his parent club may look to cash in given the time left on his deal with Transfermarkt valuing the Welsh international at over £12million, reports of a £21m price tag had previously been mooted when he first rose to prominence.

We have seen how well our relationship with Liverpool has worked in the past and if there is any hope of us persuading them to allow Wilson out on loan one more time we should grab it with both hands, if Ross Wilson – who knows his Anfield counterpart well from his time at Southampton – can work his magic and land another loan-to-buy deal then he really would deserve the freedom of Govan.
