Ianis Hagi is gearing up his rehab and return from a long-term injury setback with his boots on and a ball at his feet providing the Rangers support with a welcome dose of positivity.

The Romanian international has largely been a spectator during the reign of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, having only featured for the Dutchman 10 times across all competitions last season.

It was in the Scottish Cup game against Stirling Albion back in January when the nightmare struck for the talented attacker, with an innocuous collision causing his serious knee problem. Not far off a year later, Hagi has put in the hard yards, enduring plenty along the way but now the light is starting to appear at the end of the tunnel.

He was speaking to Rangers TV as he works further to get back into contention for the Rangers squad.

No pressure applies as such, with no game or date being declared as the target for his return but there will be an aim in mind.

For a player with quality, hunger and still something to prove in terms of reaching his full potential at Ibrox, the sight of Ianis Hagi going through his paces with a ball at his feet at the training centre at Auchenhowie is a very welcome sight.

On his gradual return and reintroduction to the Rangers squad, Hagi stated:

“Just being with the team and feeling that I’m getting close, it’s always positive. You want to be here and you want to be around the lads. It’s been a tough one and a rollercoaster mentally and physically but I can see I’m close to my final destination.”

“There’s no better feeling, especially to experience it with everyone around here, it’s twice as good.”

The most important thing for the 24-year old is that he’s ready and not rushed. His condition and well-being has to be managed to the letter so that there are no unnecessary setbacks. With a bit of fortune, the rest will work itself out then it’s to the talented player to show what he is able to bring to the team, once again.
