It’s always encouraging when you see a player that Rangers have been linked with is loved by not only the fans, but also the manager too.

Yes, the side effect to this is that it inflates their transfer fee but it’s better than signing someone that a club is quite happy to let go of.

In the case of Gustavo Hamer, the Coventry City midfielder is loving life with fans being allowed back into grounds having played his debut season in front of empty stadiums but having missed a game through injury this week, manager Mark Robins was at pains to emphasise just how important he is to the Sky Blues:

“You don’t want to bring him off.

“You never want to take him off unless he’s injured or wants to come off because he’s feeling something or tired, or whatever.

“We all know his quality and he’s important, as is everyone else.

“But he’s a special player.”

Robins has been around the block a few times and should know a decent player when he sees one, Vital Rangers covered only this week just how productive the Dutch youth cap is, producing passing numbers that are as good as any in the Championship in terms of  progressing into the final third, assists and getting his team on the front foot – in short, he is aggressive with and without the ball, a quality every Rangers midfielder should have.

With just four weeks until the transfer window opens there will be plenty of talk between now and then abut where Gio might be looking to strengthen, there will be additions but will Hamer be one of them? We’ll have to wait and see.
