“I don’t think it’s false” – Gers signing rumour backed in agent claim

|

It now seems as if it’s just a matter of time before Rangers biggest deal of the summer is announced.

Speculation has ramped up over the weekend that Connor Goldson is set to sign a three-year extension to his current Gers contract which would be a huge boost to Steven Gerrard ahead of such a huge season.

The story was first broken by The Daily Record which is unlikely to have an inside source, however, it has since been backed up by the more reliable The 4th Official blog:

“I want to finish this column with the exclusive news broken by the Daily Record about Connor Goldson. I don’t even talk about anything they publish nowadays but I want to make an exception here. For those of you who don’t know, DR published an article that Connor Goldson has agreed to a new three-year contract.

“The Record chats a lot of rubbish, but I don’t think this one is false. An agent of another player (not a Rangers player) gave me an indication about this sometime last week, but I didn’t bite. Agents usually have an agenda, and as I didn’t have any way of verifying this information, I chose not to publish it. However, what a time it would be for Goldson to sign a new deal.”

Usually, if a story is verified by more than one source it can be considered to be pretty reliable, the Goldson saga has gone full circle since April from initial reports backing him to sign, to The Athletic claiming that the club would be happy for him to see out his contract if their isn’t an extension to the latest report which, every fan will agree, is music to our ears.
