“No brainer” Rangers deal for international midfielder “ticks the boxes”

Rangers are now looking at rewarding the players who delivered the Scottish Premiership title and with Steven Davis and Leon Balogun already signed up for next season, much of the talk will be about who is next?

James Tavernier and Connor Goldson are the obvious ones but Glen Kamara’s performances for club and country deserve to see him offered a contract that matches both his status at the club and is market value.

Speaking to Football Insider, Alan Hutton feels that, even though he has a couple of years still to run on his current deal, it would be a great move for all concerned:

“Get it done as soon as possible, in my opinion.

“I think he’s been absolutely fantastic over the years. I mean, signing this guy for £50,000 and then for him reach the levels that he’s at. He’s an international player, conducts himself really well. I think it’s a no brainer.

“Look, it kind of helps both parties. If he goes and signs a new contract now, it’s good for Rangers, it’s good security for Glen Kamara.

“Moving forward, if he continues to hit those heights that he has been, especially on the international and European level, then there’ll be a big club that’ll come in and be sniffing round about him.

“Again, Rangers we know, at certain stages, have to sell some players and they’ll be making a lot of money out of it. I think it ticks all the boxes for both parties.”

Kamara, as Hutton rightly says, has been a bargain and one of the finest pieces of recruitment over the last few years, a deal that will be seen as the perfect example of how our transfer model should operate.

He is one of Finland’s most important players and a good European Championships could see demand for such a versatile player sky rocket as well as his value, protecting such an asset is a no brainer.
