For all that there didn’t seem to be much doubt, or indeed, any negativity from either party, it was still a relief to see Glen Kamara officially announced as having signed a new contract with Rangers.

The Finland international has been one of the best value for money signings that the club has ever made and will, one day, make us a significant amount of money, anything less than a record fee will be hugely disappointing.

Extending until 2025, Kamara will have had a significant pay rise to reflect his importance to the team and how highly rated he is by the club – you can’t charge £20million for a player and pay him as a £2m one.

Hopefully, next on the list will be Connor Goldson, another who there doesn’t seem to be any real panic about tying down to a longer deal, his contract extension isn’t so much about protecting his value because you could argue that we have already got our money’s worth out of him, it’s more about loyalty on both sides.

Rangers went toe-to-toe with Inter Milan to sign Ronaldo when he left Barcelona.

Goldson doesn’t owe us anything, far from it, but we still took a gamble on him given how little he had played before he signed for us, even if it is just another year it gives both parties the chance to reassess next summer when we will know if Champions League football is on the horizon.

Kamara was one of a few key players whose contracts are set to end in two years time, making it very much a case of, thank you, next.
