Thankfully, now that we have Ross Wilson in charge of succession planning, we shouldn’t see a repeat of the farce that saw Pedro Caixinha named as Rangers manager, instead, we have the former Feyenoord, Chelsea and Barcelona bosses being linked with the job – changed days indeed.

In fact, Ronald Koeman, who has not long left the Spanish giants, is considered to be a “serious candidate” according to Fichajes, that he worked with our sporting director when he was at Southampton makes it an easy connection to make.

The Spanish media outlet not only claimed that the Dutch football legend was one of our potential targets but that he is also top of the list:

“One of the most serious candidates would be Ronald Koeman. As we already anticipated in signings.net, and that today confirms, among others, the Diario Olé, Ronald Koeman is the main favourite to occupy the bench of the Glasgow team.”

He ticks a few boxes and, but for the availability of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, he might well have been the number one target, it isn’t a job for the feint hearted and he has a wealth of managerial experience that he would have been able to call upon to cope with life in the Glasgow goldfish bowl.

He’s a big name in modern football, synonymous with Barcelona and Dutch football in the 80s and 90s, but in his managerial career he has taken charge of every big club in his homeland as well as high profile jobs in La Liga and the Premier League  – a preference for 4-3-3 would also stand him in good stead given how well drilled our squad is in this formation.

Today could well be the day of reckoning and one way or the other it looks like we’re about to have our second Dutch manager, which one will it be though?
