The kids are alright, why Gio hasn’t gone Dutch

You would think with us having a Dutch coaching staff, a manager and assistant manager that worked at two of the Netherland’s biggest sides and, more specifically, in their academies, that we would have seen at least one or two youngsters from their homeland.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Feyenoord and Dave Vos at Ajax spent years working with some of their country’s most talented players and yet we’ve barely been linked with, never mind signed, any Dutch players.

The closest that we have come – if you believe reports – is Danilho Doekhi, however, with Connor Goldson extending his contract and John Souttar signing, we don’t really need anymore cover in the middle of defence, especially after the emergence of Leon King as a first-team player.

There could of course be one major reason why Van Bronckhorst and Vos haven’t returned to the Eredivisie for players and it could be staring us in the face.

If you have seen dozens of good, young Dutch players, the chances are that you have a decent idea of what talent looks like and it may be that they have already decided we don’t need to bring in potential from overseas because we have our own in the shape of King, Alex Lowry, Charlie McCann and Cole McKinnon, and that’s without mentioning any of the prolific forwards that we have on our books.

We have to trust the management team and their judgement and if they think that the next generation of Auchenhowie graduates are good enough to step up to the first-team then who are we to disagree?
