Kent conundrum with Old Firm decision to be made

You can’t leave Ryan Kent out of the team to face Celtic, can you?

With just a week to go before the first Old Firm derby of the season, regular tormentor in chief, Steven Gerrard’s number 14, is far from in his best form as a Rangers player.

He’s created chances and been in some good positions to score but he just hasn’t looked like the same player that started last season on fire and was, arguably, our best player in the opening weeks.

The manager does have a difficult decision to make which is the downside to having a good squad with depth in every position, every week talented players have to miss out and take a seat either on the bench or in the stand.

With Kent, he has Scott Wright outperforming him and Ianis Hagi making it almost impossible to be dropped given the qualities he has shown when he has played, both in midfield and in the front three – we looked a better team when Wright replaced Kent against Alashkert in the first leg on Thursday, not a great sign for the squad’s most expensive player.

However….

Old Firms can be about muscle memory, Rangers haven’t lost one since 2019 and even then it was only because of inept officiating – invariably, Ryan Kent is one of our best players in these games and, they, frankly, are terrified of him.

Who scored Rangers first ever goal under Steven Gerrard in EL qualification?

Like Connor Goldson, Kent very rarely sits out and he will be afforded the loyalty of being given the opportunity to play himself into form, we aren’t the same side when he isn’t firing on all cylinders regardless of how good other players might be playing, it would though, be a decent week to rediscover his goalscoring touch.
