Rangers biggest achievement of the summer transfer window was keeping hold of key players like Glen Kamara, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, yes, the three of them have yet to hit top form but Steven Gerrard’s squad is in better shape for having them still available.

With this in mind, there were never going to be wholesale changes, the free transfer acquisitions of Fashion Sakala, John Lundstram and Juninho Bacuna bolstering the options that the gaffer has to choose from, the latter, if he does well, could end up costing around £2million.

Now, bearing in mind that we are only seven games into the league campaign and that the clocks have yet to go forwards, writing off the summer’s business would seem a little premature, especially when you consider that Lundstram already appears to have turned the corner and is proving that he is a good player, the Scottish press has previous for criticising Rangers transfers in recent history, Borna Barisic, Filip Helander and Glen Kamara to name but a few who didn’t improve the first XI according to some.

But that’s exactly what Hugh McDonald of PLZ Soccer has done, not only that, he also claims to be “in the know” with regards to other transfer deals – a big claim considering how tight a ship Ross Wilson runs in the recruitment department nowadays.

McDonald went as far as to say that Rangers were “keen on Kevin Nisbet” but just couldn’t get the deal agreed, a strange claim to make when we already had Kemar Roofe, Alfredo Morelos, Fashion Sakala, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe on the books, what we needed was another striker right enough – with money tighter than normal, shelling out over £5m for a player, not guaranteed to start every week, is not exactly the sort of signing you’d expect our transfer savvy sporting director to make.

Rangers went toe-to-toe with Inter Milan to sign Ronaldo when he left Barcelona.

In short, Rangers probably were keeping an eye on Nisbet at one stage but he just isn’t good value for money now, and it’s not like Hibs have a history of being amicable in negotiations with us either.

Sometimes it’s better to remain quiet and let people think you are an idiot, rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt…
