Rangers have enjoyed a solid start to the transfer window, bearing in mind that it is only three weeks old and still has two and a half months left to run, and with most of the incoming deals secured, Ross Wilson will now turn his attention to departures.

A report in The Daily Record claims that Ross McCrorie has become a target for fellow Premiership side Hibernian and the Scotland Under-21 cap will now have to decide whether he wants to stay at Ibrox as a utility man or take up the opportunity to play first team football.

It is unsure whether or not Hibs are targeting a permanent or loan deal but given the other interest in McCrorie and how highly Steven Gerrard regards him – once hailed as a future captain – Rangers would be unlikely to let him leave on the cheap.

He may not have progressed as the coaching team at Ibrox or Gers fans would have hoped for but he is still only 22-years old and demonstrated in Gerrard’s first season that he can be effective in a specific role, his versatility in three different positions would also remain a useful option off the bench.

Does Ross McCrorie have a future at Ibrox?

Yes

No

No

McCrorie is in the same boat as Greg Docherty in that he is obviously a talented player with exceptional physical attributes but they just don’t have the technical ability required to force their way into the Rangers starting XI, their status as Bluenoses perhaps allowing them greater understanding from fans of the Light Blues.

Under Walter Smith, Dick Advocaat and Alex McLeish, there were always players that, like Ian Murray, Steven Smith or Bob Malcom, wouldn’t be glamorous but could be called upon to do a job as and when required, there may yet be a place for Ross McCrorie in Gerrard’s squad, it’s just a question of whether or not he would be happy with that role.
