This afternoon, Rangers has announced that ‘Flag Day’ will be delayed until September.

Traditionally, the league flag is unfurled before the first game of the season to mark the achievement of the previous year and as a mark of status for the defending champions.

This season, that will not be the case as Rangers have acted with the current restrictions in mind.

Essentially, Rangers have acted with the intention that all season ticket holders will be present as part of a full Ibrox, in two months time.

The club statement included:

Following dialogue with Police Scotland and the Glasgow City Council Safety Advisory Group, Rangers can confirm that we have written to the SPFL to confirm that “Flag Day” will be moved to 18th September.”

“We will now unfurl the league winners flag v Motherwell where based upon the current government roadmap, our board is pleased that all our season ticket holders will be given the opportunity to witness this occasion as we expect Ibrox to be filled to capacity.”

Target

A proactive approach by the club today sees expectation put on the Scottish government and the authorities to maintain the current roadmap plans.

Earlier today, it was confirmed that Ibrox will host 17,000 fans for the visit of Livingston next weekend in the Premiership curtain raiser as Steven Gerrard’s champions set out to defend their title.
