You may have missed over the New Year and Old Firm celebrations of the weekend but it appears as though Rangers may be set to miss out on a potential pre-contract deal, according to The Scottish Sun.

Bright Osayi-Samuel has long been a rumoured target for Steven Gerrard with the 23-year old forward a perfect fit to line up in a front three that is required to rotate between positions, especially for a side that regularly dominates possession.

It was hoped that former Rangers manager, Mark Warburton, plus QPR teammates Liam Kelly and Lee Wallace would be useful in helping to persuade Osayi-Samuel that his future lies north of the border, that the £3million rated winger is available for free at the end of the season no doubt makes him an attractive option for many teams though with Celtic also said to be interested.

The report in The Sun claims that the story originates from Turkey and that Fenerbahce are the club leading the race for his signature, as yet though, no official announcement has been made about where he will be playing his football next season and there remains a chance that we could snatch him from under their noses.

Do we need another attacking player?

No

He is the textbook Ross Wilson signing, proven experience in a competitive league with QPR in the Championship, available for little – if any fee at all – and at an age where he can be developed and sold at a profit if he impresses.

We have seen very few leaks from within Ibrox and the recruitment department since the sporting director arrived in place of Mark Allen and with the window now open, a few surprises like the ones that saw Jon McLaughlin, Leon Balogun and Cedric Itten arrive would go down a treat but don’t be surprised if a deal that is said to be dead is still completed – Bongani Zungu anyone?
