Rangers fend off Premier League interest with surprise contract extension

|

Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, is rumoured to be on the verge of signing a new contract at the Ibrox club that would see him extend his stay until 2024 according to a report in The Scottish Sun.

Gerrard took control of the Gers in June 2018 and, despite not winning silverware (yet), he has restored pride and belief for fans of the Light Blues.

Currently sitting just two points behind Celtic and averaging three goals a game, Gerrard has turned them from a laughing stock into genuine title contenders.

Two successful Europa League campaigns have brought in some much needed funds and he now stands on the verge of delivering football on the continent after Christmas for the first time since Walter Smith was in charge.

Rangers board has not only backed the man in charge but they have protected a valuable asset, Brendan Rodgers left Celtic for Leicester with a cheque for £8m going in the opposite direction, Gerrard will be a wanted man if he can deliver silverware for the success starved Bears.

Will Gerrard win the league with Rangers before he leaves?

No

Fans took to Twitter on hearing the news in what could be one of the biggest weeks in a generation for Rangers.

The news will be welcomed by Rangers fans but it will pale into almost insignificance if James Tavernier is the man lifting the Betfred Cup on Sunday at Hampden.
