Trying to take the plus points out of a 1-1 draw with Motherwell at home, with 24 attempts on goal is never going to be easy, however, in Fashion Sakala’s performance there was at least some light at the end of the tunnel.
We have been guilty in the past of being over elaborate with our play, Sakala though, only has one thought in mind when he picks up possession anywhere near the box – head down and hit it.
He needs to fine tune his craft though but working with Jermain Defoe should help with this, one moment in the second half saw a driven effort hit the side netting where the better option was to go across Liam Kelly, Kemar Roofe lying in wait for any save that couldn’t be held.
Steven Gerrard was also impressed and picked him out for praise, given it was his first start since Livingston on the opening day gives a positive indication that there is still more to come from the Zambian international:
“You can see how lively he is with his pace. He gives us a different option up there.
“Buff (Alfredo Morelos) has obviously got a tight hamstring and we wanted to protect that.
