No fans nonsense must be ignored as cause for Gers slump

One of the things that annoys me about football is lazy journalism.

To draw a conclusion based on nothing more than speculation or to create hysteria when the reality is a lot less exciting or controversial.

Yes, I understand why it happens, everyone has to sell papers or encourage clicks but there are some things that really should be ignored for the nonsense that it is.

I’ll give you two examples.

Dubai caused the second half slump in 2020 and Rangers only won the league because there were no fans. Utter garbage.

In 2020 we had key players missing through suspension and injury, poor squad depth and were up against an opponent that went on an unprecedented run of results, it didn’t help that individuals started making costly errors, that’s why we lost ground in the title race, not because of Dubai.

Our form at the start of this season has nothing to do with fans returning to grounds and there are umpteen examples why this narrative is equally as ridiculous as the ones that circled around our demise in the year Covid-19 hit.

Do you believe the return of fans is affecting players?

Yes

Yes

No

No

If our players couldn’t play in front of fans we wouldn’t have made the group stages, never mind the knockout stages of the Europa League, we also wouldn’t have won Old Firm fixtures at Ibrox and Parkhead, or played Celtic off the park in a cup final only to be done by dodgy officiating.

We also wouldn’t have gone a goal in front against Malmo only to see individual errors cost us.

Any journalist or pundit peddling the “no fans” myth should be blocked, ignored, scrolled past, whatever you choose, just don’t engage with them – you can’t argue with stupid.
