Rangers are interested in signing Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
The paper say he has even been given a tour of the training centre at Auchenhowie ahead of a potential £450,000 deal for the player, with the Gers stealing a march on other interested clubs in the English Championship.
With the £7.2m-rated Joe Worrall (Transfermarkt) heading back to parent club Nottingham Forest at the end of the season we need defensive reinforcements to compete for a starting spot with Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic.
Edmundson is still only 21 years of age but has been a stand-out for the English League Two side this season, making an incredible 54 appearances in total.
Said to be highly-rated, he appears to be ready for a step up in competition and it seems Steven Gerrard is keen on developing him further at Ibrox.
The manager is clearly keen on bringing young players both he and his coaching staff can mould into the kind of stars capable of competing for major honours at Ibrox and it’s certainly going to make for an exciting second season.
