Rangers have been drawn to face Dunfermline at home in the second round of the Premier Sports Cup.

In effect, this is the Last 16 stage of the League Cup, with Scotland’s European representatives now taking part in the tournament.

An additional home game will be welcomed by Steven Gerrard as it gives further bedding in time for new signings like John Lundstram and Fashion Sakala.

Any home draw is always to be welcomed and even more so, against lower league opposition but the Pars will still get the respect that they merit when the game comes round.

It will form a vital part of preparation for Rangers ongoing Euro commitments, coming immediately before either a Champions League or Europa League playoff first leg in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere, there are three ‘all-Premiership’ matches in the second round with Celtic v Hearts arguably the tie of the round.
