Some transfer rumours can be rubbished almost as soon as they have broken and the latest one to emerge for Rangers involves a potential move for Middlesborough’s Djed Spence.

One position that Steven Gerrard will be content with for the next few years is right-back, however, this hasn’t stopped Spence from being linked with a move to Ibrox by ESPN.

Speaking to Football Insider, the gaffer’s former England team-mate, Paul Robinson, believes that the 20-year old would jump at the chance, in the unlikely event that an offer is made:

“Spence has done well this season.

“It’s always great to have versatile players in your squad and Spence is certainly one of those.

“He’s a great age and has a lot of experience already for someone so young. I think he’d be a great signing for Rangers.

“I’m sure he’d be interested if offered the chance to work with Steven Gerrard. They’re building something special up there.”

The report claims that a fee of £5million would be required to secure Spence’s services, another indicator that a deal is unlikely, why would we pay that sort of fee when we have two players in James Patterson and Nathan Patterson who can be relied up regardless of the opposition?

File this rumour under the category of one started by an agent to get other clubs interested and to possibly bump his transfer fee up – it isn’t the first, and it won’t be the last time this summer!
