Rangers named as “interested” in 32-cap international forward

Rabbi Matondo hit the ground running on his Rangers debut against West Ham United, however, a minor knock saw him miss the season opener against Livingston before being thrown in at the deep-end against Union Saint-Gilloise in mid-week.

The 21-year old didn’t have much success but he also didn’t see a lot of decent ball either, constantly being crowded out and having two Union defenders in his path, the tactics employed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst didn’t get the best out of one of our biggest attacking threats.

Things could have been different for the Wales international though after a report in Le 10 Sport, via The Daily Record, claimed that we have made an approach for 32-times capped Gabon winger Denis Bouanga:

“In-demand Saint-Etienne winger Denis Bouanga has been “approached” by Rangers, according to a report in France. The 27-year-old Gabon international is set to leave the French club following their relegation to Ligue 2.

“Among clubs named as interested parties are Los Angeles, Anderlecht, Club Brugge and – according to Le 10 Sport – Rangers. The report states no agreement has been reached with any club, but that MLS outfit LAFC – who signed Gareth Bale earlier in the window – have tabled the highest offer at around €3.5million.”

Valued at over £7m on Transfermarkt, Bouanga is capable of playing anywhere along the front three, however, he has played most of his football on the left wing cutting in onto his favoured right foot similar to the way that Matonda has done in the past although he looks to be pencilled in for the right wing under Van Bronckhorst.

It looks like our summer business is done unless there are departures, Fashion Sakala has been linked with a move away so there could be something in this one, unless he was one of many names on a list that featured Matondo and after he signed, our interest ended.

The window still has some weeks to go an there will be one or two heading out the door, whether or not Bouagna is still available when they leave we’ll have to wait and see.
