It’s gone quiet recently, however, there is still a chance that Rangers could be about to see a change at boardroom level and major investment in the form of Kyle Fox, the American businesswoman whose high-profile interest in the club could yet become a reality.

One obvious shareholder who might be interested in selling up is Dave King, the former chairman remains our biggest and has more than ruffled a few feathers recently despite not having any real control over the current shambles on and off the park.

What we do know though, is that if he wants to get his point across, The Herald’s Chris Jack is his go-to man and the respected Gers journalist has been speaking to the Blueheart 1872 podcast about how things would be different were King still at the club:

“What I would say on Dave is that he is very aware of what is going on at the club.

“So he may not be on the board or a director anymore, but he is still aware of the squad, the manager, what’s going on behind-the-scenes and at boardroom level.

“If Dave King had still been at Rangers then Steven Gerrard would not have left the football club, that’s a fairly straightforward one.”

It’s not really as simple as that though is it?

King, rightly, deserves an awful lot of praise for what he did for Rangers but he is now at the stage where he needs to either put up or shut up. Stirring things from South Africa doesn’t serve any benefit to anyone.

Gerrard, after winning the league, was always going to leave for a decent opportunity in the Premier League and Aston Villa – or so he thought- was going to be the perfect step before reaching his ultimate goal of one day becoming Liverpool manager.

The former Gers gaffer wanted it both ways, to keep his star players and make big-money signings and that just wasn’t possible. It’s nonsense from King to suggest that if he was still active in the club then Gerrard wouldn’t have left because, at any point, he could have put his hand in his pocket to fund more transfers – he didn’t have to have a working role to do this, he was and remains, the largest shareholder.

All King is trying to do is build pressure on the current board, he isn’t stupid, and there will be a reason why. We just haven’t found out what that reason is yet.
