Rangers have been heavily linked with Preston North End’s Daniel Johnson in recent weeks, however, it would appear that a last minute move is unlikely to be completed, according to The Daily Record.

The Championship side’s manager, Alex Neil, confirmed that there is little chance of anyone leaving Deepdale over the next 24 hours when asked if there were any deals close to fruition:

“Not at this moment in time, but you can never say never in football.

“What I do envisage is, if anybody does happen to leave then certainly we would need to replace, dependent on who it was.

“But at the moment, I think it’s a 99% chance that won’t happen.

“Everybody at every club has got a price on their head – if someone comes up with big money and it’ll need to be big money, then obviously we’d need to replace.

“But I’ve got absolutely no appetite whatsoever to sell anyone.”

Johnson would’ve been a shrewd acquisition given the goals and assists that he is capable of producing from midfield, however, if he remains on Preston’s books when the window shuts, Rangers must be one of the favourites to sign the 27-year old on a pre-contract deal with the player said to prefer a move up the M6.

We have conducted the vast majority of our business in secrecy this summer, and in general since Ross Wilson became the sporting director, if we miss out on the £2.5million rated midfielder, fans will be hoping there is another Ianis Hagi shaped rabbit about to appear from the former Southampton supremo’s hat.
