Vital Rangers reported on the Scottish Government’s plans to pass ahead with some form of vaccination passport for fans and how supporters from outside of Scotland face being discriminated against just two weeks before they are due to be implemented.

You would think, nearly two years down the line, that the Holyrood administration would appreciate the logistics involved for businesses and organisations but, apparently not, if the SFA/SPFL joint response group’s latest press release is anything to go by.

From the 1st October there is supposed to be some sort of scheme in place, and yet, the organisations who run Scottish football are being kept in the dark about how they are to manage and monitor their members, as revealed by the SFA in a scathing announcement:

“The JRG sought clarity on the operational detail which clubs, football bodies and stadium operators will be expected to implement from 1st October.

“At both meetings, the Scottish Government representatives acknowledged they were not yet in a position to provide the detail necessary for clubs to begin their implementation planning.

“With just over two weeks until the system is scheduled to commence in football stadia across the country, we reiterated our concern at the lack of detail available and reinforced the requirement that this information be confirmed as soon as possible.”

How can the government possibly expect clubs to have the resources in place to deal with such a huge task on less than two weeks notice? Extra staff might need to be recruited or technology installed, it’s just the latest fiasco in a long line from the SNP administration, you would think that they would have learned that making things up as they go along isn’t a great way to navigate your way through a pandemic.

As it is, being vaccinated doesn’t stop the spread of the virus so on the most basic level of science, it’s a pointless venture. It would be more beneficial if everyone attending fixtures had to take a lateral flow test with spot checks being carried out around the grounds.

With the passports being cancelled in England, surely the Scottish Government can’t continue on a path that is only likely to end in yet more money wasted at a time when every penny counts, on second thoughts, that’s exactly what they’ll do.
