New Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl won’t stand in the way of a Steven Davis move to Rangers this January, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

The paper report that Steven Gerrard is eager to bring the experienced Northern Ireland international to Glasgow in an effort to boost his side’s creative chops.

Rangers have been linked with Davis for a while now, but the sacking of Mark Hughes and appointment of former RB Leipzig boss Hasenhuttl had the potential to put a spanner in the works.

The Gers have now been given the green light though, with The Sun even reporting that he could arrive in Glasgow on a free transfer as a thank you to the player for his six years of service in England.

Given he is currently rated at £3.6m by Transfermarkt, that would represent a significant bargain, even if his current contract does expire at the end of the season.

The 105-cap veteran has made just one English Premier League start this season but likely still has the ability to improve Gerrard’s midfield, who have been toiling of late with the inclusion of loan players like Ovie Ejaria and Lassana Coulibaly.

Davis won an incredible eight trophies in his first spell at the club, also playing a crucial role in helping us to the final of the UEFA Cup. That’s a winning mentality we can’t afford to pass up on right now and hopefully the club can sort out a deal for the player during the Winter break.
