Michael Beale looked to put to bed the persistent rumours about Alfredo Morelos’s future when he said that all talks over a new contract were going to be shelved until the end of the season. A report of a pre-contract agreement with Sevilla was rubbished but the Spaniards, along with Turkish giants Galatasaray, remain the frequently mentioned on the back pages.

All the Gers gaffer can do if he wants to keep the Colombian international at the club is make sure that he is happy, give him regular match time and the platform to play to the level that we all know that he is capable of, however, a story coming out of Spain via Estadio Deportivo has claimed that Morelos is “torn” between two clubs and neither of them are Rangers:

“Several clubs behind Morelos Logically, as a free agent, he is not the only club interested and among the teams that want him is a group that seems to attack everything that has moved lately; and that he has coincided in some objectives with Sevilla.

“It is about the Turkish Galatasaray. Attackers of the level of Mauro Icardi, Bafétimbi Gomis, Mertens… are currently playing in the leader of the Superlig, which indicates that they have the economic potential to fight with Sevilla for the player.

“However, the Turkish press almost ruled out the option of the Ottoman team, since, according to what they say, Alfredo Morelos is torn between two clubs: Sevilla FC and Aston Villa.”

Sevilla, according to the report “would be a very good option” for El Bufalo and their regular participation in European football is also a major draw should they follow up what looks like concrete interest. It is a club that ticks pretty much every box that Morelos has been looking for in a new club in that it is a better league, it is a big club, his salary would improve and he would be able to communicate in his natural language.

The Galatasaray link seems dependent on some of the forwards named potentially leaving but finances obviously wouldn’t be a problem for them either, as would be the case for Aston Villa. Morelos has spoken before about being interested in a move to the Premier League and, at 26-years old, he may see this as his last chance.

Rangers fans have never grudged Morelos moving on to bigger and “better” things or leaving if the chance to double his wage presented itself so, if he left for clubs of this stature it would at least soften the blow.
