Rangers were considering making a late move for Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick, prior to finalising their loan deal for Joe Worrall from Nottingham Forest.

Elphick has today completed a loan move of his own to Hull City, but The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that the Gers were looking at the 30-year-old as an alternative to Worrall.

Ultimately the focus was on completing the deal for the 21-year-old, making Rangers supporters very happy with the defensive depth now available at the club.

Elphick has extensive experience at Championship and League One level and would have added real physicality to the Rangers backline.

The recruitment at Ibrox this summer has been incredibly impressive with not just most of our main targets landed, but a variety of alternatives in the background ready should the club have failed to bring them in.

It demonstrates that we’re getting things right on and off the pitch at the moment and long may it continue.
