Rangers are weighing up the prospect of a practice game during the international break.

One of the main reasons for this is to assist in the recovery of Ryan Jack who is nearing full fitness, with an outside chance of being involved this weekend in the fixture against Ross County.

Steven Gerrard spoke at the press conference ahead of the Europa League game against Brondby when he gave an update on the progress of Jack as well as Ryan Kent, who will be involved in Denmark.

After Sunday, club football takes a back seat for a fortnight but there will be plenty of work going on behind the scenes at Auchenhowie, as alluded to by the Rangers manager.

He told the club’s official TV channel (9.00):

“Ryan Jack is training away, he has an outside chance of being involved at the weekend, depending on how this game (Brondby) goes but Ryan has been back in full training for a couple of weeks now.”

“I think the international break is super-important for him in terms of getting a load of work in big spaces into his legs and we will be trying to get a game behind closed doors for him to get some minutes under his belt because he has obviously been out for a long time”

Fitness and agility will be crucial for the return to the midfield for Jack, but the only way to gain match sharpness is to play games.

The likes of Nathan Patterson and Jack Simpson would benefit from a bounce game but the former (as well as others) will be involved with their national teams next week so any game that is arranged would be made up of squad players and a few to step up from the B team.

Hopefully further progress follows because the return of Ryan Jack and his skillset would be a massive boost for the champions as they aim to kick on in the defence of the title.
