Connor Goldson was already a man under pressure, and then there was that post match interview.

Not signing a new contract was always going to see him hyper analysed and be under the spotlight more than usual and Sunday’s win over Livingston was no different despite a solid performance.

When the hosts pulled a goal back at 2-0, it was Goldson who fans held largely responsible but, for once, I’m going to stick up for him – sometimes you just have to applaud the quality of the pass and control that allowed Alan Forrest to get a shot off, before Allan McGregor’s save rebounded, kindly, for Bruce Anderson.

We are never going to be the type of team that sits deep to protect our keeper, which leaves us susceptible to this type of goal if the initial pass is a good one, it’s not often that opposition players in the Scottish Premiership display such quality and I’d bet that Forrest wouldn’t have that sort of touch every time if you played the same pass 10 times.

It just goes to show though, that when the knives are out, it’s very difficult to put them away again:

Goldson really needs to be inch perfect every week to avoid this sort of criticism from fans until he either signs a new contract or leaves for another club, it was a tough one this week but these comments ar just an example of what we are seeing on a weekly basis – and these are the ones that are suitable to print.

I’m afraid Goldson has been showing really poor form this season and he’ll be lucky to get his “dream” move in January, or May, as the only move will be to the English Division 1.

I hope GvB strengthens in the back centre and gets in another good striker. Then he needs to offload about half a dozen midfielders that will never get a game. Stevie G just kept on getting “another midfielder” when we desperately need cover in Central defence and up front!
