As was expected, there has been a staggered return for the Rangers first team squad as pre-season got underway at Auchenhowie today.

The majority of the entire squad reported for duty, but for those who were on international duty, some extra time was allocated ahead of getting back to work for the new season.

One man who was present earlier on Monday was the newly re-signed Connor Goldson, who expressed his dissatisfaction at the typical Glasgow Summer rain with some tongue-in-cheek humour as below.

Rangers TV will have all the action covered over the next few weeks, in all locations as the squad goes through the gears to prepare for the season opener against Livingston on 30th July.

The info released on the club website included the following on those afforded some extra time off:

“The week of hard work in the Algarve will be the first time the whole squad is together, with a number of those players who were on international duty or recovering from injury afforded some extra rest time ahead of reporting back.”

The Portuguese sun will provide a pleasant backdrop for the hard work and sweat on the training pitch as part of essential preparations. The travelling Rangers group will depart the UK next weekend following a bounce game against Partick behind closed doors.

One week later, the conclusion to the training camp will see Alex Neil’s Sunderland provide the opposition in Albufeira in what should be a lively encounter in front of a crowd.

Blackpool, Spurs and West Ham lie in wait upon the return to complete the pre-season programme, as things stand currently.
