Rangers are closing in on Steven Gerrard’s latest signing, with The Scottish Sun reporting this morning that talks to bring Greg Stewart to Ibrox are at an advanced stage.

The paper say that Stewart’s arrival is just the latest part of the manager’s strategy to fill the squad with British players as he looks to build a team capable of mounting a title challenge on Celtic next season.

The 29-year-old’s current deal at Birmingham City expires at the end of the season, meaning Rangers can tie him down to a pre-contract imminently.

Currently on loan at Aberdeen, the attacker has scored nine goals this season, eight of which came for Kilmarnock prior to the January transfer window.

Stewart is one of three players on their way to Ibrox this summer before the transfer window even opens, with deals for Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie already completed, according to the report.

There will be hesitation from some Rangers supporters with regards to Stewart, but he has a track record of goals and assists in the Scottish top-flight and could an effective link between midfield and attack next term.

Hopefully surrounded by better players he can put his recent poor Dons form behind him and become a hit at Ibrox.

  • Stewart could be a great linkup player for us next year, he has energy is determined and has a bit of invention about him that has caused us problems. Huge huge Rangers fan from Fallin.

    • Liked the comment Chris, but don’t you think that we should be aiming higher? I would like to see young players that want to make a name for themselves Ryan Kent being one of them. Players like that could be the future of Rangers F.C, the club that I have loved for years now. Steve G will get it right, the man has the fire and passion to lift us back to the top!

  • Absolutely rediculous signing and big disappointment in Steven Gerrard if he believes a guy who’s not good enough for Aberdeen who can’t lay a glove on septic is good enough for Rangers. This an most of the other signings so far are not good enough to stop septic from doing 9 in a row. It’s yet more fringe players mounting up the wage bill. Instead of signing yet another 10 to 15 fringe players buy 3 or 4 CLASS players in. If they are not as good as what septic have or would get into their team then Do Not bring them in! Are we actually going for the title next year or happy to sit at 2nd best?? As players like Stewart suggest that’s all we are going for!
