Just as Vital Rangers reported on how Ryan Kent is happy with life at Ibrox with no desire to move, news has emerged that the 24-year old is set to be offered a new contract by Steven Gerrard.

He still has two years to run on the £20,000 per week deal he initially signed as part of his £7.5million move from Liverpool but after his performance against Celtic at the weekend, it’s clear to see that he is worth significantly more as a player that has developed almost ever facet of his game.

The Daily Record claims that the contract offer is an attempt to fend of interest from the Premier League and protect one of the club’s most valuable assets:

“Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard wants Kent on board for the Champions League assault next term and is willing to offer a hike in wages to persuade the wide man to ignore the calls from down south.

“The 24-year-old is under contract until 2023 and Gers plan to cash in at some point. But Ibrox chiefs also want to maximise their profit on the £7.5m signing and starring in the Champions League could sent his value sky-rocketing.”

Champions League football really is a game changer, not only have we seen the likes of Alfredo Morelos hint that he may be around for another season but it is a huge draw for any potential targets, it also means that we can afford to spend a little more than we have been previously, once things return to “normal”.

We will always have to cut our cloth accordingly though and player exits will be part of the business plan, but gone are the days when players would leave for peanuts and, for all that Kent will leave us one day, whoever buys him will have to have deep pockets.
