It’s a long way to go but Rangers are in a strong position in the Scottish Premiership considering that we are yet to get out of first gear – winning games without being at our best could well be the difference between success and failure at the end of the season.
Celtic’s stuttering start has played a huge part in seeing us top the league with Hearts and Hibernian looking like they are going to pose a genuine threat, both capital clubs are currently unbeaten and should not be taken for granted when we play them in the next few weeks.
Statistically though, it doesn’t look like the sides from Edinburgh will be able to maintain their challenge throughout the campaign with a “super-computer” on fivethirtyeight.com tipping Steven Gerrard to follow up his title success of last year.

After the weekend’s results, Rangers are now 70% likely to win the Premiership with Celtic languishing at 25% and Hibs at 2%, a one point lead at the top and six point lead over our Old Firm rivals paints a decent looking picture, although, it has to be remembered that only seven games have been played.
Since 3 points for a win was introduced in 1994, no club with 11 or fewer points after 7 matches has gone on to win the Scottish top flight title.

Interestingly though, no side, since the inception of three points for a win, has managed to win the league coming from a position of having less than 11 points after seven games – Celtic currently sit on 10.
The Dundee United and Motherwell games were frustrating for different reasons, a mixture of bad luck, poor finishing and slack defending cost us, however, we are still in a strong position and one that the 11 teams below us would gladly swap us for – only another 31 games to go to see if the computer is right.
