Tide turning for Gerrard as Lennon’s turn to feel the heat sees temperature turned up

Life in the Old Firm bubble is never plain sailing, Mark Warburton once revealed on the “This is Ibrox” podcast that he was met by journalists on his arrival to take up the Rangers job, only to be told – “you’re the good guy” now.

It was in reference to an insight that he had been given before taking up the job that there is always one manager in Glasgow that gets an easy ride, whilst the other is seen as the pantomime villain, the hapless Ronny Deila was in charge at Parkhead when the Englishman moved north.

Steven Gerrard’s reputation as a player bought him little time in his fledgling managerial career as the usual suspects such as Tom English and Graham Spiers lined up to take pot shots after he had failed to win the treble in his first few games in charge – the latter claiming that he was “quietly terrified” at the size of the task in hand.

The tide appears to be turning in more ways than one though with Rangers now favourites to win the league for the first time since 2011/2012, in no small part due to the tactical organisation that has seen them barely break sweat in recent derbies.

Neil Lennon may claim that his side have been “magnificent” or “brilliant” at times this season but he isn’t fooling anyone, lest of all his own fans, who were far from happy when he was originally appointed in the first place.

Will Lennon still be at Celtic at the end of the season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

We have seen it all before as Rangers fans, when things don’t go his way, the toys get thrown out, even this season, after a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock he was telling players to “get out the club” if they didn’t want to be there.

An obvious lack of form despite positive results, players that clearly want to leave the club, a poor recruitment strategy and clueless as to how to beat Rangers points to one outcome and something that all the 4-0 wins over Hamilton won’t fix – his coat being on a very shoogly nail.
