After having more favourites for their vacant manager’s job than they have points in 2021, it now looks as though Celtic have made an approach for their next boss, with the Englishman now odds-on to replace Neil Lennon.

With a whole football department needing to be replaced and half a squad, anyone taking the job will need to have some contacts book on them to fill the gaps all over the pitch, they have no senior right-backs and just one left back, added to the three keepers that nobody rates and that’s before you get to the players that don’t want to be there.

Sky Sports have reported that Celtic have “made contact” with the former Bournemouth manager and it appears as though they are ignoring several red flags that surround his career, not that you’ll hear Rangers fans complaining.

He left Burnley after a matter of months because he was “homesick” and has never worked at a club where there is an expectation to win every week – yes, his teams play nice football but there is more than one issue with how he operates, that he also quit Bournemouth rather than try to get them back into the Premier League also speaks volumes.

Howe isn’t known for being able to set up a team that can defend and in his last few seasons in the Premier League he showed that he is not really one to be trusted with a large budget, spending £35million on two Liverpool youth players who had a handful of senior football appearances between them.

Theres no doubt that in the vast majority of games his team will replicate sides of old like the one Tommy Burns was in charge of, but the biggest difference between Howe and Steven Gerrard? One is a serial winner and the other is a serial quitter.
