A report in The Scottish Sun has claimed that Rangers and Celtic are set to do battle over the signature of QPR forward Bright Osayi-Samuel.

With Mark Warburton as his current gaffer and teammates Lee Wallace and Liam Kelly formerly of the Ibrox parish, you would like to think that we will have a slight lead in the race to persuade him to head north.

Osayi-Samuel would be a very Ross Wilson type of deal, at 22-years old he still has some developing to do but has experience of playing at a decent level and, similar to Joe Aribo, he would be available at a tenth of what his true value is due to the cross border ruling on players approaching the end of their contracts.

Recent talks with QPR stalled, which has potentially opened the door for Rangers to offer him terms on a pre-contract transfer, that his club turned down significant multi-million pound bids in the summer and that the player himself rejected the chance to move to Belgium for £4.7million shows just how much of a bargain it would be to get him up the road for just a few hundred thousand pounds.

Do Rangers need reinforcements in attack?

Jordan Jones can’t have long left in a Light Blue shirt and Brandon Barker and Greg Stewart failed to make the match day squad for the trip to Dundee United on Sunday, targeting a player like Osayi-Samuel would be a significant upgrade on the fringe players we have at present who are capable of contributing to the Gers attack – if we can beat those from across the city to get the deal done.
