Back to square one as Aus fiasco shows no sign of coming to an end

Rangers really need to provide the support with an update on the Sydney Super Cup fiasco, a situation that, despite their fans not wanting it to take place just as much as ours, could end up seeing Celtic, somehow, ending up as the good guys in the whole sorry mess.

It’s clear that they are leaving it up to us to pull out of “Ange’s homecoming tour” in the hope that they still get the money for participating and can make some sort of legal claim against us should we pull out – any withdrawal we make has to be bullet proof, we, as a support, have had more than our fair share of expensive court cases in recent years.

When Dave King offered to cover any shortfall caused by pulling out of the tournament it looked as though a solution had been found, however a report in The Glasgow Times over the weekend, written by Chris Jack, claims that it has already been rejected:

“Rangers have rejected Dave King’s cash offer to cover the cost of their potential withdrawal from the controversial Sydney Super Cup trip.

“Herald and Times Sport revealed this week that the former chairman had made a move that could have allowed the Ibrox board to save face with supporters amid the ongoing storm over the jaunt Down Under.”

Former manager Alex McLeish reckons that is should have been a done deal to accept the former chairman’s offer amongst all the recent animosity and protests from the Rangers support:

“I don’t want to get involved in the political side of it, but hopefully they can sort out their differences.

“I did see that Dave King would make up any shortfall that Rangers could have if they were to pull out of this game.

“Who could refuse that? Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, at the end of the day.”

But this is part of the problem, the lack of communication from the club. We just don’t know what is going on.

Obviously there might be legal reasons why the club can’t divulge what is going on but, as we saw from James Bisgrove’s interview when the announcement was leaked, we have been royally stitched up by those across the city, we need to find a way of returning the favour without it coming back to bite us on the backside and we need to find it fast – the next few weeks are too important to be a club divided.
