You know your future at a club is likely to be short when the manager resorts to playing a team-mate out of position rather than trusting you to do a job.

After scoring at Tynecastle the week before and having a week off due to being ineligible to play in the Europa League, Cedric Itten must have thought that he had a chance to lead the line in the Scottish Cup final, especially having scored against the same team the week before and with Joe Aribo having ran himself into the ground against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Swizerland international didn’t even get off the bench as the game went into extra-time and it now looks – if it didn’t already – that his Rangers career is hanging by a thread.

The good news is it looks as though his reputation back home hasn’t been harmed with Young Boys linked with a move for the 25-year old, Christoph Spycher, the Swiss side’s sporting director refusing to rule out a move recently when asked about recent speculation, as reported by The Rangers Review:

“We never comment on speculation. Sometimes the rumours are the truth, sometimes they are completely wrong.

“You’ll know when something happens.”

Rangers paid in the region of £2.5million for Itten and there is no reason why we shouldn’t ask for a similar fee, he is still young and he has only had playing time restricted because of those in front of him, he also has just about enough of a highlight reel to persuade others that there is still a player there.

Sometimes transfers just don’t work out, wrong club, wrong time, if we get anywhere close to our money back then it has been a good deal.
