When Rangers announced that Castore were going to be their new kit providers more than a few eyebrows were raised and, unless you had a passing interest in tennis, most fans probably didn’t even know who they were.

Now though, after the initial teething problems that weren’t helped with the onset of a global pandemic, the sportswear firm is going from strength to strength and can count teams in some of the top leagues as their clients, they must be rubbing their hands at the timing and nature of Newcastle United’s takeover and where that journey could end up.

After being their first venture in football, Castore now has several on their books but this doesn’t mean we should be treated as second class citizens with football finance expert Kieran Maguire claiming that we are still very much a key client, as told to Football Insider:

“They are still part of their top roster.

“They have got these clubs at the top table and ideally they will be desperate to keep them all.

“We’ve seen Rangers say they want to maintain that relationship with Castore. They are fully aware of the success in terms of merchandise sales.

“If they qualify or the Champions League next year, there will be another boost there. So they are top table and that’s to be expected given their status.”

The relationship with Castore benefitted both parties when it was first announced, we were hamstrung by Mike Ashley’s influence and they wanted someone who would propel them into the limelight, without us, they wouldn’t be in the position they are now and it may be that Stewart Robertson goes back to the negotiating table if other clubs are getting a better deal than Rangers.

If they can match the sort of revenue that the likes of Adidas and Nike can offer then it doesn’t matter how long they’ve been around, it should always come down to the bottom line, pounds and pence, and how much money they can make the club.
