Following the news of the last 24 hours and the confirmation of plans for a breakaway European Super League, Rangers now have a decision to make.

Having announced Arsenal as special guest visitors to mark to club’s 150th anniversary, the north London club’s hierarchy have gone against the spirit of that game by proceeding with the other conspirators to form a closed shop, NFL-style franchise led by greed.

History, tradition, heritage – three words that are synonymous with Rangers FC.

How can we possibly celebrate our glorious history with a showpiece game facing a club who have made a devastating move against all that the 150th anniversary represents.

It just doesn’t add up, leaving a rather large elephant in the room.

The official confirmation statement included:

“Rangers and Arsenal enjoy a long, rich history and first played each other in 1933 in what was known as the “Game of Champions”.”

“This fixture became an annual event for many years and was testimony to the deep friendship held by Rangers manager, Bill Struth and Arsenal’s Herbert Chapman.”

“Arsenal were also notably Rangers’ opposition when we celebrated our centenary, therefore it is with great pride that we will host Arsenal again as part of the celebrations of our historic 150th anniversary season.”

The proposed ‘European Super League’ goes against everything above, it betrays the history that Arsenal were built on and quite frankly, it casts a huge shadow over this planned game in July.
