Transfer windows are always a time when rumours can be created from nothing and speculation can grow based on something simple like a player’s social media post but in Rangers case, there seems to be an awful lot of rumours surrounding our two senior left-backs for there not to be something in them.

The other side of this is that we have now been linked with a second one ourselves after initial stories claiming that Josh Tymon was on our radar, this time, it’s West Ham United’s Emmanuel Longelo.

The 21-year old is capable of playing anywhere down the left-hand side and has played for David Moyes’s first-team making two appearances, however, it has been reported that he is looking to move on to get more regular senior football with The Sun reporting that he is set to leave London this summer.

What Rangers have done with Calvin Bassey will benefit us in the long run when it comes to recruiting young players from the Premier League and the Under-23 league, they can see the career path that can be followed and how, by taking a step back in terms of domestic football, they can play at European and international level if they put the hard work in.

With other teams from the English top flight said to be interested, we could have a fight on our hands, however, any deal will be subject to either Borna Barisic or Calvin Bassey making way first of all but the Hammers shouldn’t put up too much of a fight given Longelo’s status in the squad and the fact that he only has one year left on his contract.

I get a feeling that this summer could be a bit of a transfer merry-go-round in that one move could see several others follow, whether or not the press have got any of the names right so far, we’ll have to wait and see.
