Gers legend Brian Laudrup has been impressed with his former club’s form this season and although success on the pitch is the number one priority, there could also be gains to be made off it, if success follows in the months to come.

Writing in the Daily Mail, and reported by The Daily Record, the Great Dane explains how the manner in which Rangers are playing will be seen by Europe’s elite clubs as an attractive proposition when scouting for new additions.

So what has Laudrup said?

When assessing the start that Rangers have made to the season, with the news that a £15.9million loss has just been posted, he said:

“Before Gerrard arrived, Rangers didn’t really have players who would attract much interest. Now the picture has been transformed and the Europa League has been so important to that. It is a stage that really grows value. Richer clubs take notice.

“You look at the squad now and it is about much more than just Morelos. Think of the potential of Ryan Kent. How Ianis Hagi can improve. In midfield, Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara could both deliver huge profits on their modest transfer fees somewhere down the line. Borna Barisic offers great quality at left-back.

“The picture is positive. There are a number of players at the right age, who are hungry and skilful. They have already done it against Porto, Feyenoord, Braga and Galatasaray. If they can now beat Benfica and kick on into the knockout stages once again, it’s inevitable there will be a lot of interested admirers at the end of the season.

“Clubs across Europe would say about Rangers: ‘They play the right kind of football. That’s how we like to play.’

“Sporting directors in the big five leagues will believe that a number of the Ibrox players could fit in just about everywhere. It’s a real asset.”

So is Laudrup correct?

Absolutely, Alfredo Morelos’s goal scoring exploits in the Europa League make him at least a £20m player and few – except maybe those of a green and white persuasion – would argue against this, top goal scorers in the group stages of European competitions do not come cheap.

How many senior players did Rangers sign this summer?

The recent international break saw half the squad called up for duty, again, this only adds to their value and if players like Kieran Tierney can leave Scottish football for £25m there is no reason why the players mentioned by Laudrup shouldn’t be valued at similar, or even more.

It has taken a long time but finally we have a squad to be proud of and one that is capable of competing on all fronts, the £170m valuation on The Athletic is beginning to look at little short.
