It’s safe to say that after getting so comprehensively beaten off Hibs, there won’t be a shortage of players that Rangers fans would be glad to see the back of.

One such player might be Borna Barisic who, according to reports, could be a target for Steven Gerrard and Aston Villa – a fee in the region of £8million being claimed as the figure it would take to see him head south and join the man who brought him to these shores.

Barisic didn’t actually have a bad game defensively on Sunday, if anything, he was the only member of the back four who could argue that he did his job, however, it was in the final third where he failed to provide any real spark or accuracy – a situation not helped by the form and dynamism of Calvin Bassey prior to the winter break.

If the report is accurate, he may be the first high profile figure out the door.

The whole point of our player trading model is to buy low and sell high and we would be making a 400% profit on the 28-year old Croatian international whose form has been nowhere near the levels of last season.

Bassey would be promoted to first choice which would leave us either needing to sign a back up or to recall Glenn Middleton or the increasingly impressive James Maxwell and the cycle would begin all over again.

Barisic has been a good signing but, if we are to sell him, now would be a good time to do it because his value is only going to depreciate from here given how close he is to his 30th birthday. it would also make sense tactically because teams are starting to switch on to the threat he provides – yes, he has wonderful delivery, but he can be one dimensional, an accusation that can’t be thrown at Bassey.
