Rarely does a football club get to pick and choose the right moment to sell a player, the same can be said for when they are trying to sign transfer targets too.

In Rangers case, we identified Josh Maja as a potential replacement for Alfredo Morelos when it looked like the Colombian international was about to break our transfer record.

Maja would have cost in the region of £6million – if Bordeaux had been willing to sell him – in the summer of 2020 but now, as reported by The Lancashire Telegraph, he is available for half that fee.

“The Lancashire Telegraph has been told that Bordeaux are looking to raise funds in the January window with Maja one of the players able to leave.

“However, it is understood they would want a fee of at least £3m for the Nigeria international who has 18 months left to run on his deal.“

Maja was nearly back in England last summer but a back issue was picked up on medicals at Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers, that he has only just returned to action fully justifies their decision to pull out of their respective deals – he has been involved in the Ligue 1 side’s last few games though so he has at least proven that his injury troubles are now behind him.

From which country does Dundee United keeper Benjamin Siegrist come from?

Rangers don’t really need a striker just now but for £3m, Maja could offer a long-term option should either Alfredo Morelos be sold or Kemar Roofe continues to have injury set backs – at 23-years old, he still has plenty to offer and plenty of potential to fulfil.
