Rangers pursuit of Theo Bongonda looked to be one that was doomed to failure after it was reported that he was heading to the Middle East, however, news late last night has suggested otherwise.

Writing on his Twitter page, journalist Silvio Tavolieri has claimed that the DR Congo international could still be an option for Rangers with the news coming from, almost, the horses mouth:

“After confirmation with his agent Fouad Ben Kouider, nothing has yet been decided in Théo Bongonda’s file where #Fenerbahçe , #Olympiakos and #RangersFC joined with #AlAin interested clubs by the attacker of #KRCGenk . To be continued”

We already know about the clubs mentioned and the biggest issue is going to be what the player sees as his priority at this stage of his career.

At 26-years old, a move to Al Ain could set him and his family up for life. We might not be able to compete financially but on every other level we are the bigger and more illustrious option.

Bongonda would command a sizeable fee having cost Genk £6million a few years ago, it would probably take something similar to sign him as he enters the last year of his contract which would be a fee that we’ve have only paid more than on a couple of occasions.

It’s no secret that we are looking for extra firepower in attack and Bongonda certainly offers that and if Tovolieri is correct, we might not have to wait too much longer to find out where his next destination is – fingers crossed it’s Ibrox.
